Although we’re absolutely in love with the Muskoka region any time of year, we must admit that fall in Bracebridge, Huntsville, Gravenhurst, Rosseau, Bala…and everywhere else in this fabulous region simply can’t be beat. Imagine almost 4,000 square kilometres full of deciduous trees turning into those glorious fall colours – it’s no wonder people drive from far and wide to witness it. If you’re wondering how to make the most of this magical time of year, here are a few of our favourite activities and events in Muskoka for you and your family to enjoy:

Fall Colours Cruise

One of the best ways to enjoy the majesty of the fall colours is actually on the water! In Muskoka, there are several great opportunities to jump “on board” with friends and family and take in the beautiful autumn scenery. You can hop aboard the S.S. Bigwin, The Lady Muskoka, The Island Queen and the RMS Segwun. Prices and cruise times vary, so call or check out each website for all the details. You can also enjoy the scenery from your own boat, canoe or kayak!

Take A Hike

There’s no lack of places to hike in Muskoka, and no better time of year. Although it’s a good idea to get outside anytime of year, autumn is particularly special. Not only is it an opportunity to enjoy the last bits of warmer weather before winter comes to call, it’s also a great way to appreciate changes occurring in nature, minus those pesky bugs and hot temperatures. For more formal hiking trails, you may want to check out Six Mile Lake Provincial Park trail in Port Severn as well as Strawberry Point Trail in Bracebridge. Also, if you haven’t been to the Dorset Lookout Tower Trail yet, you’re in for a big treat!

Fall Fairs

Fall fairs are another great way to celebrate the season. There are many fall fairs to choose from in our area. Here in Bracebridge, the annual Fall Fair and Horse Show is a favourite local tradition and a great family-friendly way to enjoy this time of year. Learn more about all the fun activities and attractions by visiting the Bracebridge Fall Fair and Horse Show website.

Cranberry Harvest

Autumn also means it’s time to harvest. The Cranberry Harvest in Bala is another great way to welcome and enjoy the season. From games for the kids, to vendors and food, a mini-midway and live entertainment…there’s lots to do, see, taste and explore. Check out the Cranberry Harvest festival for the full lineup.

Pumpkin Trail

What says fall more than a pumpkin? How about a trail of pumpkins!? Now in its umpteenth year, the annual pumpkin trail is a family favourite, a local tradition and a great alternative to other Halloween activities. Held in the Pioneer Village located in Muskoka Heritage Place, it’s a seriously fun time for kids and adults alike.
